Education promotes recovery and self responsibility through a variety of modalities including didactic instruction, internet, and video.

Services:

The New Leaf Model offers 12 weeks of intensive outpatient treatment for drug and alcohol problems.

Relapse Prevention Workshop and weekly individual counseling sessions provide a balanced treatment program with a strong aftercare component. Movement through the phases of treatment is progressive unless the client is unable to stay sober or suffers a relapse (leaves treatment for a period of time).) Isolated drug use episodes are discussed and analyzed to strengthen the client's recovery program to regain control of cravings.

Weeks 1 - 2: Weekly counseling + 5 groups
The two major goals are the establishment of a structured daily schedule in which the client sleeps at night and is awake during the day, plus the development and implementation of avoidance strategies to manage environmental cues.

Weeks 4 - 10: Weekly counseling + 3 groups
The major goal is the development of a craving management program which includes avoidance strategies, daily structure, and the practice of behavioral tools to manage craving. The treatment emphasis shifts toward identifying the causes of craving and adjusting the relapse prevention program to balance the craving.

Weeks 10 -12: Weekly counseling + 2 groups
The treatment focus is on the transition to aftercare. The client begins attending a weekly Intermediate Recovery Group. Many clients return to work during this period.

After Care: Weekly counseling + 1 group
The Intermediate Recovery Group is process oriented, but continues to keep a close watch on craving scores. Participation is recommended for three months, but may continue for six months.
Movement through the phases of treatment is progressive unless the client is unable to sustain sobriety or suffers a relapse (leaves treatment for a period of time.) If the client is unable to sustain sobriety or relapse to drug use, they move back to an earlier, more basic phase of treatment. If relapse occurs after the intensive phase of treatment, the client rejoins his/her intermediate group when the client and counselor agree. Isolated drug use episodes are discussed and analyzed in the context of strengthening the recovery program to regain the conceptual balance between craving and program.

Services include
  • Comprehensive assessment
  • Medication monitoring
  • Medically supervised detoxification
  • Individual, family, and group counseling

The Relapse Prevention Workshop is a structured interactive, facilitated group to deliver the basic information necessary for craving managment. The goal of the individual sessions is to develop a strong therapeutic alliance in which the clinician maintains a non-judgmental, warm, and positive manner. This therapeutic relationship is considered the "anchor" of treatment. Medical detoxification is defined as the use of medications to treat drug withdrawal symptoms. Medications are used to relieve distress and promote recovery by alleviating symptoms of early abstinence that interfere with function and increase craving. If the client has symptoms that interfere with daily function for more than three consecutive days, the use of medications is considered. Before medications are introduced the client is encouraged to use nonpharmacologic measures to address the symptom. Exceptions, which are treated immediately, are symptoms of paranoia that interfere with daily function, and physiological symptoms with adverse medical consequences.

    Medical Services:

Licensed clinicians, under the supervision of the Medical Director, are responsible for developing, within five (5) days of admission, an individual written plan for medical detoxification for the client that is based upon the information obtained.

  • in consultation with the client's primary care physician, and/or the referring physician
  • by review of the client's medical records.

Treatment for physical withdrawal from substances is based on nationally recognized, published protocols. The treatment plan includes, at minimum:
