About Us

Since 1996, New Leaf Treatment Center has provided treatment to adults and adolescents with addictive disease and other chemical dependency problems. Compassionate clinical care focuses on relapse prevention and promoting health through recovery. Staff is multi-disciplinary and incorporates medical services with complementary approaches to recovery.

New Leaf Treatment Center participates in clinical research activities promoting quality treatment, examination of current treatment methods, and testing of new treatments for drug dependence.

New Leaf Treatment Center is committed to excellence in education for clients and their families. Education promotes recovery and responsibility. New Leaf trains practitioners and primary care providers on the standards of addiction medicine.

Dr. S. Alex Stalcup, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. S. Alex Stalcup is a graduate of Whittier College and a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics, and in Addiction Medicine. He is certified as a Medical Review Officer by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (A.S.A.M.). Dr. Stalcup served three years as the Medical Director of the Drug Detoxification, Treatment & Aftercare Project at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics in San Francisco. He then established a private practice in addiction medicine. Since 1996, he has served as the Medical Director of the New Leaf Treatment Center in Lafayette, California. Dr. Gantt Galloway, Pharm.D.

Research and Executive Director

Dr. Gantt Galloway attended Reed College and the University of California Berkeley. He received his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of California San Francisco and residency training at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Martinez. Dr. Galloway was employed by the Drug Detoxification, Rehabilitation & Aftercare Project of the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics from 1989-2005 and served as Chief of Pharmacologic Research. He has provided expert testimony in state and federal court proceedings since 1991. He is a Senior Scientist at the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute in its Addiction & Pharmacology Research Laboratory and is a member of the faculty of the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Galloway has received grants and contracts to study medications and psychosocial treatments for addiction to methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and alcohol. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals. In 1996 Dr. Galloway co-founded New Leaf Treatment Center and currently serves as its Research and Executive Director.

Dr. Elyse Eisenberg, M.D.

Associate Medical Director

Elyse Eisenberg is a staff physician at New Leaf. She specializes in addiction medicine and does general practice. She is a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. Dr. Eisenberg joined New Leaf in 2010 and meets with adult and adolescent clients for medication management and detox.

Linda Hickman, R.N., B.S.N., M.A.

Director of Nursing

Linda Hickman RN, BSN, MA is currently the Director of Nursing at New Leaf Treatment Center. Since graduating from Brigham Young University in 1976 Linda has worked as an RN in a variety of specialty areas. After more than 10 years specializing in emergency department medicine, she expanded her nursing practice to include hospital-based education, training, and administration. After completing a Master’s program at John F. Kennedy University in health education and nutrition in 2008, and working for a period of time in hospice and home health administration, Linda was recruited in 2010 by New Leaf and has eagerly joined in the vital and rewarding work of providing addiction treatment and pain management.

Michelle Brown, MFT

Clinical Director

Michelle Brown, LMFT is the Clinical Director at New Leaf. She received her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Southern California (USC) and has been working in the addiction field for over 15 years. For 12 years she has worked at New Leaf and specializes in Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). She works with both adults and adolescents and provides supervision to the clinical team and MFTi interns.

Jeff Kent, MFT

Marriage & Family Therapist
Youth Clinical Director

Jeff Kent is the Clinical Director of the Youth Program at New Leaf. He works with adults and families and has 20+ years of experience with youth. He specializes in grief, families, youth, mindfulness and gestalt therapy. He has a Masters in Humanistic Psychology from Sonoma State and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University.

Dr. Eric Moreland, PsyD

Staff Therapist

Eric Moreland is a staff therapist at New Leaf. He received his Doctorate in Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and has been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. Dr. Moreland specializes in addiction and Relapse Prevention Workshop. He currently meets with clients for individual therapy and facilitaties group therapy (Relapse Prevention Workshop).

Farah Del Arroz

Office Manager

Farah Del Arroz graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Public Health. Farah serves as office manager at New Leaf Center. Prior to being office manager, Farah had worked as a New Leaf student intern and had worked for the National Institute on Drug Abuse in Rockville, Maryland.

Cindy Chiang

Intake Coordinator

Cindy Chiang graduated from Notre Dame University where she earned her B.S. in Biology. Cindy works as intake coordinator at New Leaf Center, helping with client admissions and insurance inquiries. Cindy also works as Dr. Stalcup’s Adminsitrative Assistant.
